This Saturday, March 5th, Human will launch its collaboration with artist Nikki Luna at its Glorietta 4 store.
The t-shirt collection celebrates International Women’s Month.
The shirts, said Nikki, will not be your usual slogan shirts.
“I wanted shirts that won’t be passive but actually make a statement. It’s time to use popular brands such as Human to tap the younger generation, keep them informed, and educate them about art and women’s causes. We hope the words on the shirts will continue to challenge and question relevant issues.”
During the launch, Nikki will talk about how her art and advocacies are connected, and how she has always been determined to call attention to issues, such as basic human rights and women/gender rights.
“As an artist and as a feminist I have a pulse for the collective. I don’t want to stop at being followed or admired. I’d like to create more art work that can move others to action just to try and do more good,” said Nikki.
Nikki is a graduate of UP Diliman Fine Arts. She took her art residency at the Cooper Union in New York. She is also the founder of the non-profit organization StartARTproject that provides art workshops to women and youth victims of human rights violations.
Choosing her husband, football TV analyst/commentator and model Mikee Carrion, as the model for the Human shirts was accidental, said Nikki.
“We realized that he actually practices everything written on the shirts. He truly is a role model for having a household that’s gender fair, supportive of women’s rights and is my partner in smashing patriarchy. It makes the merchandise definitely even more authentic.”
Human is at the second floor of Glorietta 4 in Makati.
