Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne star in My Burberry global campaign
I rarely meet a bottle of fragrance that I like that’s why this one is special: a personalised My Burberry bottle specially engraved with my initials. I love it.
It’s a gift from Burberry, which had a special engraving machine set up last October 23-29 at SM Aura’s Beauty Section.
Launched last October 2014, My Burberry is the brand’s most significant new fragrance created by Burberry Chief Creative and Chief Executive Officer, Christopher Bailey in collaboration with renowned perfumer Francis Kurkdjian.
“My Burberry is the true embodiment of our brand, in scent, in design and in attitude,” said Christopher Bailey
“We have created a beautifully crafted grand floral unique to Burberry—the perfect accompaniment to the Burberry trench,” said Francis Kurkdjian.
The global campaign features British global fashion icons Kate Moss and Cara Delevingne shot together for the first time by photographer Mario Testino, both wearing the Sandringham trench coat.
“I was so excited when I heard I would be shooting with Cara—I had met her a few times, but never worked with her, so I knew we were going to have a brilliant time,” said Kate Moss.
“It was such a simple and natural shoot; it was just Cara, me and our trench coats. Cara has this amazing energy and we just bounced off each other, and I knew that with Christopher and Mario there we would be able to create something really special and iconic.”
“What I love about My Burberry is how timeless it is—it’s a fragrance that is so effortless, that you can wear it anytime, and anywhere,” said Kate.
“I have been working with Burberry for over 10 years now so the team is like family to me. Burberry shoots are always the place to meet amazingly interesting people. Christopher has this ability of bringing together incredible Brits from all creative walks of life, so you know the shoot is always going to be a lot of fun, and you always come away with new friends!”
“Mario is an incredible friend, and shooting with him is always such a fun experience. He has this ability to capture the real story, bringing the people and his subjects to life in the most effortless, beautiful and sexy way.”
“I love working with Burberry. I love that Burberry is a British brand that innovates and I feel really proud to be part of that,” said Cara Delevingne. “My first-ever big fashion campaign was for Burberry and I’ve always loved working with the team there.”
“Shooting with Mario is awesome. We have the best time on set and there are always exciting projects and unexpected twists. It’s always great to work with him and I love how he captures me in a sexy but fun way.”
My Burberry captures the fragrance of a London garden after the rain, with top notes of sweet pea and bergamot fuse and a heart of geranium, golden quince and freesia, rounded out with base notes of rain-tipped damask and centifolia roses and patchouli.
The glass bottle and overall design reflect the details of the Burberry trench coat—with a bold horn-finish cap (like the buttons) and a hand-tied knot in English-woven gabardine. The bottle is presented in a trench-coloured box with a gold-lined interior embossed with the iconic Burberry check design.
My Burberry Eau De Parfum comes in 90ml, 50ml, and 30ml.

Tessa Mendoza exhibits at The Writers Bar, Raffles Makati
Artist Tessa Mendoza mounts her first solo art exhibit entitled GRACIA at The Writers Bar, Raffles Makati this November 5-9, 2014. On view are abstract paintings and portraits in acrylic and gold leaf and mixed media.
Tessa describes herself as a self-taught artist who began by doodling on her school notebooks. Her teachers recommended art classes to her mother. Later on, Tessa would be accused by one of her art teachers of having someone else do her homework, as she could not believe Tessa could produce such work on her own.
In 1986, Tessa began to paint earnestly, taking private watercolour lessons with artist Jonah Salvosa.
In 1988 she got married, had four children and put the painting on the backseat.
Twenty one years later, while living in Canada, Tessa’s passion for the craft was reignited. She enrolled in several classes under distinguished Canadian and British artists and became an elected member of the Société des Artists Canadiens SCA, the Federation of Canadian Artists FCA, and the North Vancouver Community Arts Council.
The Writers Bar at Raffles Makati is open daily for from 6:30 AM to 12 midnight.

Was Neymar Jr. at Megamall yesterday?
I’m just so used to stalking my jeje crush, Neymar Jr. on Instagram, who often looks like this
that I nearly fell off my bed when H&M PR Manager Dan Mejia posted this on his Instagram
My poor eyesight thought that Neymar Jr. had shopped for Alexander Wang x H&M opening at SM Megamall.
Until I realized it happens to be makeup artist Leo Posadas.
Oh well. I can always look at Qatar Airways latest TV commercial with FC Barcelona.
This makes me willing to fly Qatar. Mabuhay ang jeje crush!
Take 25% off at Old Navy’s Kids and Baby Sale!
Baby clothes aren’t what they used to be and a far cry from what we had in 2001 and 2003.
The choices we have in Manila now make me wish I had a baby again and again.
Old Navy is one of those stores that has a large selection of cool baby clothes—not just the usual pinks and flowers for girls and baby blues for boys. At Old Navy I’ve seen blacks, greys, skulls, and more for little boys and girls.
From now until November 12, 2014, stock up and take advantage of Old Navy’s Kids and Baby Sale with 25% off on ALL Kids and Baby styles.
Available at Old Navy stores in Bonifacio High Street, Glorietta 3, SM Megamall, and Fairview Terraces.
More Filipino family recipes in Angelo Comsti book
I think it’s great that more and more Filipino recipe books are coming out with nice covers and photos, unlike the newsprint and bad covers and fonts we had back in the day. Today’s Filipino recipe books are pretty enough for gifting.
Food stylist, reviewer and author Angelo Comsti has been prolific in coming up with recipe books highlighting well-loved recipes from not just anyone but from prominent figures in the local food industry.
His latest book, The Filipino Family Cookbook contains more than 50 unpublished family recipes from some of the country’s well-known food personalities, like Felice Prudente Sta. Maria, Robby Goco, Margarita Fores, Nana Ozaeta, Jin Perez and more.
Personal photos and short stories detailing the history of each dish are featured along with recipes written in clear and concise step-by-step instructions, with tips and advice for food preparation.
Angelo Comsti graduated with a degree in professional culinary studies at Le Cordon Bleu in Sydney, Australia.
He is a food writer for television and various print and digital periodicals, as well as a food and prop stylist for magazines, print ads, billboards, restaurant menus and cookbooks.
Angelo has a regular FM radio spot called Radio Brunch on Manila’s Wave 89.1 where he talks about all things food. He holds cooking demonstrations and develops recipes for corporate clients and food magazines.
The Filipino Family Cookbook: Recipes and Family Memories from our Home Kitchen (Php 845) is available at National Book Store and Powerbooks, or online at nationalbookstore.com.
Tried and tested: Linksys > Airport Express
I’ve been an Apple user since the early ’80s. I went straight to Mac and can’t get along with a PC no matter how I try.
So naturally I would prefer an Apple product to go with my MacBook Pro.
But I can’t tell you how many Apple routers I have gone through. Five or six is my guess, and they have all conked out on me. Here are the last three I’ve used.
For some reason, these Apple routers don’t work well with my Internet at home. Doesn’t matter what kind of Internet. Right now I have PLDT Fibr.
Last month I had a problem when my PLDT modem had a red light and Internet died.
The following day the light was green again, but my Internet would disconnect every so often.
For the next three days I kept calling PLDT customer service, who kept telling me there was nothing wrong from their end. So I decided to try all three Apple Airport Express units I had at home. Each one would be a pain in the ass to install, reset, connect.
On the fourth day I gave up and decided to look for a more conventional router at SM Megamall. The salesperson recommended this Linksys which he said was easy to install. It costs a little more than an Airport Express.
I went home, followed instructions, and it worked magically. So much better than the Airport Express.
Check out my current speed.
The only problem I have is I can’t seem to change the default password, even by following instructions.
Other than that, I highly recommend it.
P.S. This is an honest review, not a paid advert.
How to get a decent bowl of rice at Tim Ho Wan
I love dimsum. But there aren’t many chuva-approved dimsum restaurants in Manila. That’s why I am so happy that Tim Ho Wan opened just around the corner at SM Megamall.
Since it opened last May 2014, I have been there no less than 15 times. I’m not scared of the line. I have lined up for one hour, and I have lined up for five minutes. The trick is to go during off-peak times like mid-afternoon.
Tim Ho Wan is famous for its baked pork buns, but it’s not my favourite. I prefer the more conventional siopao, which they don’t have.
So I usually go for the pork siomai and the shrimp dumplings.
But after the tenth time I got tired of it.
That’s when I found my current favourite—the fried shrimp puffs with wasabi dressing. Unfortunately I don’t like wasabi, so I tell them to skip that.
These are really good when piping hot and crunchy.
The downside of eating at Tim Ho Wan is they will refuse to serve you plain rice if you’re not a kid. So for the last 15 times I would do something I don’t like to do—I would drop the name of one of the owners.
Finally last week I saw the owner at his other restaurant, Todd English at SM Aura. I asked him if he could give me a calling card with instructions to give me plain rice.
It worked like a charm! Not only that, I got extra smiles from the servers.
The card has a special place in my wallet. I am actually thinking of laminating it.
When I showed the card to my friends they were kind of impressed, until Dinna Vasquez said, “You should get a card that says ‘Please don’t make her line up.'”
She has a point there. But then, I have some shame, hehe. Thank you Eric Dee
Win the perfect wedding coverage from the Dream Team and Colgate
Things were much simpler when Jeroen and I got married almost 14 years ago (thank God!).
With all the new technology available, getting hitched these days requires much more work.
As for the perfect wedding coverage, two names stand out in the industry: the dream team of Jason Magbanua and Pat Dy.
L-R: Jason Magbanua, Colgate’s Allan Castro, Pat Dy
With more than 10 years experience, Jason Magbanua is a gifted storyteller with an eye for capturing perfect wedding moments. Pat Dy, on the other hand, started his career by shooting for top fashion magazines in the country. Taking this fashion background when capturing real life couples has given him that extra edge.
Their client list includes prominent couples from the Manila social scene, such as Maggie Wilson and Victor Consunji in their racy pre-nup shoot
They captured Stephanie Kienle and Chris Gonzalez in their romantic Parisian wedding of
Then there’s Cat Arambulo and Carlo Antonio’s intimate weekend nuptials at Bellaroca.
Through Colgate Philippines, one lucky bride can get a chance to have her most important day covered by Pat Dy and Jason Magbanua through an online contest.
To join, the bride-to-be must upload a short video telling her worst wedding fears on the Colgate Philippines’ Facebook page.
“I’ve taken hundreds and thousands of photographs, and it’s really the perfect white smile that makes all the difference,” said Pat Dy.
“It’s the one thing people notice, and having the perfect white smile will boost your confidence to get through your special day,” said Solenn Heussaff, face of Colgate Optic White.

Wanted: Linked In for household help
How I wish they had taught us Life Lessons at Assumption, instead of Physics or Trigonometry, which I hated and don’t even remember or apply today.
I wish they had told us that cooks sometimes steal food. As in, on Saturdays when they do the marketing, they meet their husband in the market and slip them a bag full of uncooked meat from our marketing money. Or they meet their husband at the corner store near ULTRA and slip their husband a bag of uncooked meat from our freezer.
No wonder sometimes there would be no bacon or chicken breast at home for the kids when I could’ve bought it before it ran out—if only the cook would’ve informed me.
So our cook of four years—the one I had trained at 25 Mushrooms, the one Jeroen and I personally trained, the one I sent to Chef Sumet Sumpachanyanont of Mandarin Oriental, the one whose rent I paid on top of her salary, and who owes me money—had to be let go.
The driver snitched on her with a caught-in-the-act video. Then she snitched back about the driver, which unearthed tons of horror stories from our past employees.
A new driver was easy to find, but a good cook is difficult. Where do we find a good, honest cook who doesn’t steal?
I wish there were a Linked In for household help. I’m sure there are tons of people there looking for jobs. There has to be a good, trustworthy cook out there who needs a job.
But there are problems that could go with a household Linked In—like pirating each other’s cooks or yayas. It could be one hot mess.
Or maybe someone should open cooking school just for women who are wanting to be household cooks?
God please send us a good cook. We are really nice and pay well…
Toni Gonzaga raves about Acer’s Liquid phone
Like her or hate her, it’s Toni Gonzaga’s time.
The singer, TV host, and actress has been lucky with her recent hit movie, Starting Over Again, and has been very visible with numerous endorsements—the latest of which is Acer’s new line of smartphones.
“I grew up with the brand,” said Toni during a press conference at Marco Polo Ortigas. “Our first laptop was an Acer, which I was able to operate right away without a manual. It’s so convenient.”
L-R: Agnes Neria Espino (ACER Product Marketing Director), Andrew Chuang (General Manager, Tablet Business Unit Group), Jason Chen (Global President and CEO), Toni Gonzaga (Brand Ambassador), Manuel Wong (General Manager), S.T. Liew (President – Smartphone Business Group) and Dio Vasquez ( Senior Manager/Product Management Head)
Acer recently launched its latest Liquid line of smartphones including the Acer Liquid Jade, Liquid X1, Liquid E700, Liquid Z500, and the Liquid Z200.
The company also unveiled its new Iconia Series tablets including the Acer Iconia Tab 8 (A1-713) and Acer Iconia One 7 (B1-730HD).

The new gadgets were introduced in a media event at Metrotent in Pasig City.
The event, which was attended by members of the media and Acer’s trade partners, also saw Toni literally being unveiled as the brand’s new endorser.
Acer officials said they chose the TV host-actress because like the Liquid Jade, Toni is bold, innovative and beautiful.
“It has always been Acer’s mission and vision to provide our customers the best that technology can offer.” says Acer Philippine general manager Manuel Wong. “So we bought the kind of technology in our smartphones that people actually need, and this is because we have remained sensitive and listened to what our customers say and feel.”
ACER General Manager Manuel Wong
Toni described the Acer Liquid Jade, which she uses, as a phone that “keeps up with my busy lifestyle.”
The 7.5mm ultra-thin Acer Liquid Jade smartphone features a 5-inch IPS HD screen, a 1.3GHz quad-core processor for stellar performance, 21Mbps HSPA+ connectivity for seamless connection to any network, Android 4.4 KitKat operating system, plus 13-megapixel rear and 2-MP front cameras to capture those precious moments with friends, colleagues and loved ones.
The actress had rave reviews for her new phone.
“The Acer Liquid Jade is perfect for me because its features match and serve my lifestyle. It gives me everything I need for work, and even helps me bond with my friends and family by keeping me in touch with them wherever and whenever I need to. It’s become part of my life.”
Acer chief executive and president Jason Chen, who was in Manila for the launch of the brand’s new smartphones and tablets, said they have identified the Philippines as one of three countries where Acer will promote its smartphone line. The other two are Belgium and Thailand.
“We will go beyond a traditional PC maker by diversifying into mobility devices, including smartphones, tablets and wearable digital devices in order to serve changing consumers’ lifestyles,” said Chen.
BLEACH collaborates with ICanServe for breast cancer awareness
The ICanServe Foundation for breast cancer support and awareness will be setting up its pop-up store at the Power Plant Mall, Rockwell Center Friday, Saturday, and Sunday weekends beginning October 3, 2014.
This year, ICanServe collaborated Tinay Villamiel of Bleach to create a special fund-raiser T-shirt.
“We wanted a new look to commemorate our 15th year—something very simple, straightforward, organic,” said Crisann Celdran of the ICanServe Shop. “When I started thinking about brands that could create the shirt for us, I only came up with Bleach. I sat down with Tinay over coffee and she instantly understood.”
“We are glad and inspired that there is an organization like ICanServe that reaches out to create awareness to women about Breast Cancer. It is an honor to become part of this cause,” said Tinay Villamiel.
ICanServe advocates early breast cancer detection through information campaigns and community screening programs.
Bleach-designed shirts and other new fundraising items such as pouches, organizers, fans, umbrellas, and contribution cards will be available for purchase at the ICanServe booth at the lower level of Power Plant Mall all weekends of October or online at http://icanserveshop.com.

Simplifying, positivity, and the colour purple
Jinky Amores is a family therapist with the gift of clairvoyance. Like Cole Sear in The Sixth Sense, she can see dead people and communicate with them, as well as with comatose patients, or children with special needs. Because she can scan your present health condition, some people call her “the human MRI.”
One of the simpler gifts she has is to read one’s aura.
She’s not scary: Jinky Amores at a get-together at Slice last week
I met Jinky a few months ago when I consulted her about an important decision. As a devout Catholic I was hesitant to go to her. I am deathly afraid of fortune tellers or manghuhula. “But Jinky is not a manghuhula,” my friend Patrice reassured me.
So we met Jinky at her consultation space in Makati, which is decorated with various Catholic objects, and began with a prayer. During my consultation she read my aura and gave me positive advice on my case. She also gave me a clean bill of health and told me what to avoid. You can an idea of what Jinky can do HERE.
Last week I saw Jinky for the second time when I was invited to preview a website she has launched with her friends, Kristin Ruth Zalameda, Julia Jatico, and Robert Madamba.
Kristin and Julia are friends that have been consulting Jinky for years. Both attest to how meeting her has changed their lives for the better. They believe that one can change his/her life by improving one’s state of mind as well as appearance. And it all starts with the aura.
Tweetie de Leon Gonzalez consults Jinky Amores
When Jinky reads your aura, she suggests a colour that will attract positive energy to your life.
They say what’s inside reflects on the outside. But I also believe that if you fix the outside, it can affect the inside.
For instance, when I don’t feel well, sometimes a pampering session at the salon can really make a difference. I force myself to shower, put on makeup, wear decent clothes and get a blowdry. Much better than just veging in bed in pajamas.
When you look good, you feel good and attract positivity.
This is the idea behind the Dress My Aura website, where for Php 599, you can upload your photo and have Jinky Amores read your aura. She will tell you your current state of mind and tell you what is your special colour.
A makeup artist will also suggest what makeup to apply, and a stylist will give wardrobe advice.
Results will be delivered via email within 48 hours.
L-R: Kristin Ruth Zalameda, Jinky Amores, Julia Jatico, Robert Madamba (I.T. expert)
During my meeting with Jinky, I was wearing my usual black and navy blue uniform. She told my to wear amethyst or a light colour purple for to enhance my spirituality. (How I wish she had told me to wear red or pink instead—two colours I approve, aside from my usual black and 50 shades of grey.)
So off I went to the mall and bought the Uniqlo body shaper and socks and the nail polish from Watsons. I also bought an amethyst-colorer Swatch, which I can wear with my black/grey/navy uniform.
I sighed in relief as Jinky gave me another clean bill of health and a positive reply to an important question.
She also advised me to “simplify” and declutter my life from all forms of negativity.
To know more about the website, go to http://dressmyaura.com/.
If you would like to consult Jinky in a private session, you may contact her through the site.

Ines de la Fressange launches 2nd collection for Uniqlo
Before the word “supermodel” was ever coined (and I hate that word by the way), there were great beauties we looked up to in the ’80s. One of them was Ines de la Fressange.
At that time we knew her to be the muse of Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld—and one doesn’t become muse just by looks alone. Aside from being naturally tall, skinny, and beautiful, Ines also happens to be an aristocrat (her father is the Marquis de La Fressange) with an innate sense of style.
Ines as muse of Chanel in the ’80s
Ines today as fashion designer wearing Uniqlo
Following the success of her first collaboration with UNIQLO last Spring/Summer 2014, a second and bigger collection was recently launched for Fall/Winter 2014. Watch this:
Said Ines de la Fressange: “I try to take the position of women today, and take into account such factors as closet space and budget. No one can live surrounded by unlimited clothing. Having many items is not necessarily a good thing, and it is important to have ‘good clothes.’ The point I wanted to express with the new collection is that even without a detailed fashion knowledge, women can find something beautiful to wear. They can have a full wardrobe. The Fall/Winter collection is even better than I expected, and I’m extremely pleased with the elegant line,” she said.
The collection features smartly cut shirts, the classic trench and casual cashmeres, chic trousers, the elegant tuxedo jacket, and simple silk dresses. Each piece translates easily from day to night and is a great addition to any woman’s wardrobe.
The Ines de la Fressange collection is now available at UNIQLO SM Megamall, SM Aura and Glorietta 5.

Be very afraid.
SMART has just launched free mobile Internet for prepaid subscribers.
That means over 66 million Filipinos can gain access to the Internet just by having SMART, Talk ‘N Text, and Sun Cellular prepaid SIM cards on their mobile phones.
I’m kidding of course—this, coming from someone who’s had several run-ins with certain social media users
But seriously this is good news for prepaid users who can get free access to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, SMART Spinnr, Wikipedia, Waze, Google Maps, Uber, and more from now until November 30, 2014.
This groundbreaking announcement was made last Friday by SMART and PLDT Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan during a press conference at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel.
SMART Chairman MVP at the press conference (PHOTO: John Michael Bueno)
“We are launching this initiative to provide a much larger number of Filipinos the opportunity to try out and experience the Internet, enjoy its benefits and, as we at SMART like to say, live more,” said MVP. “This special offer is specifically designed to assist our prepaid subscribers who make up the bulk of our population. Many of them already have the mobile devices capable of accessing the Internet but have yet to use them to go online.”
To avail of the free mobile internet offer, Smart, Talk N Text and Sun Cellular subscribers need to have an available airtime balance of at least one peso, or be subscribed to any load bucket or promo.
They must register each day, by simply texting FREE to 9999. Registration is free.
Once registered, they will receive an SMS confirmation and be able to enjoy a free data volume package of up to 30MB per day. Data charges will however apply to peer-to-peer uploads and downloads, videos, VOIP and messaging.
